In keeping with India’s vision to become a world leader in science and Technology and to usher in a new revolution, resulting in an unprecedented economic growth, Government of India reassessed the need of technical manpower and decided to set up eight new IITs. Six of these started functioning back from the academic year 2008-09. These were established at Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Rajasthan, Ropar, Patna and Bhubaneswar. IIT Indore and IIT Mandi started functioning from July 2009.
Indian Institute of Technology Indore located in Madhya Pradesh, known as IIT Indore or IITI, is an institute of national importance established by the Government of India in 2009. It is one of the eight new IITs, started by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India), Government of India. The institution started functioning from 2009-10 in a temporary campus at Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilyabai University under mentorship of IIT Bombay. Shri Arjun Singh, then the Union HRD minister, laid the foundation of the permanent campus, spread over an area of around 510-acre (2.1 km2), on 17th February 2009 at Simrol, a location on Khandwa Road about 25 km from the city of Indore.
Presently, IIT Indore is functioning from two locations: first one at IET-DAVV Campus (Khandwa Road) and another at PACL Campus (Hardnia Khedi Village, Indore-MHOW Road). At IET-DAVV Campus, we have our Administrative offices including Director’s Secretariat, Registrar’s office, Offices of the Dean of Faculty Affairs (DoFA), Dean of Planning and Administration (DoPA), Materials Mangement section and Finance and Accounts Section. The School of Basic Sciences and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences are functioning from this campus. There are various basic sciences labs are established in this campus. At PACL campus, we have our Academic office including offices of Dean of Academic Affairs (DoAA) and Dean of Research and Development (DoRD). The School of Engieering is fuctioning at PACL campus. There are vaious engineering labs are established in this campus. The Central Library has located in the both the camapuses.
The Academic office is responsible for all the academic affairs of the students of the Institute. There is a Dean of Academic Afffairs, an Deputy Registrar, five Junior Assistants in this office besides some contractual employees.
The year 2009 saw the birth of Indian Institute of Technology Indore, one of the new IITs established by the Government of India. Within its short span of five years, IIT Indore has already carved a niche for itself among the leading technological institutes of India.
IIT Indore’s main objective, besides technology, education and research is to contribute largely to nation building and also to make great strides technologically on the international arena. Its focus has been on impact oriented and state-of-the-art research with special emphasis on interdisciplinary training in Schools of Engineering, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences.
The students have shown their mettle as the future pioneers in industry, technology, research and sports both at national and international levels. IIT Indore also boasts of highly qualified experienced faculty members who are specialised in various areas of research with emphasis on imparting more rigorous training, quality education and interdisciplinary research programmes to the students.
The institute has established link-up with international institutions and we are looking forward to establish strong industry-academic relationship in the years to come.

The Central Library provides vital support for on-going teaching programmes and research at IIT Indore. The library is rapidly developing its collection of books, reference books, periodicals, and electronic resources. At present, the Library has a collection of over 27,000+ books, which includes, in addition to textbooks and reference books, a fine collection of books on Literature and English Language and a select collection of books on Sports, Biographies, and General Interest titles. The Magazines and Newspaper Section includes popular Magazines and Newspapers both in English and Hindi.
The Placement Office handles all facets of campus placements for the graduating students of IIT Indore. This involves establishing contact with companies, arranging for tests and group discussions, holding pre-placement talks, conducting final interviews, and any other kind of recruitment related activity. Well equipped with first-rate infrastructure, the Cell caters to all the requirements of organizations, at every stage of the placement process.
