The growth of Technical Education in Bihar state has been very slow. Due to efforts and initiatives taken during successive 5-year plans and particularly due to policy changes in the eighties to allow participation of private and voluntary organizations in the setting up Technical Institution on self-financing basis, the growth of Technical Education has been phenomenal.
It was in this context, due to inadequacy in the number of engineering colleges thus far produced, and in order to meet the heavy demands of the various public and private sector industries. Al Zafar Memorial Education Trust took initiative to establish “AZMET College of Engineering & Technology” in Kishanganj (Bihar), with a view to ensure the proper planning and coordinated development of Technical Education.
It was expedient, under the pressing demand of the Muslim Minority Community at Kishanganj, Madhepura and Purnea, Kosi region, their children were deprived of getting Technical/Professional education. They have to go as far away as Patna, Delhi, Aligarh, Varanasi etc. for technical/professional education.
Al Zafar Memorial Education Trust resolved to establish a Muslim minority technical Institution i.e., a Diploma Engineering college, known as AZMET College of Engineering & Technology, as per provision of Article 29 and 30 of the Constitution of India under the caption of “Fundamental Right”.
Which read as follows:
“Cultural & Educational” rights.
|Mode of Learning:|
The Campus of the institute is spread over an area of 10.05 acres.
The distance of the ACET campus is 6 kms far from National Highway 31, approx. 6 kms from Kishanganj Rly. Station or Bus Stand. Nearest Airport is Bagdogra (Silliguri, West Bengal) approx.65 kms. 6 hrs. journey by train from Kolkata, 8 hrs. journey by train from Patna, 3 hrs. journey by Bus/Taxi from Biratnagar (Nepal), 1 hour journey by train from Silliguri (NJP/New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal), 4 hours journey by bus/taxi from Darjeeling, 8 hours journey by bus/taxi from Sikkim/Bhutan.
It represents a spectacle of harmony in modern architecture, natural beauty and picturesque surrounding. The campus area has been organized into three functional sectors:
1. Hostels for Students
2. Instructional Buildings
3. Residential Sector for the Faculty and Staff
The instructional buildings have been so located that these are fairly near to both the hostels and the staff quarters and are at a walking distance from both.
The instructional buildings consist of following blocks:
(i) Administrative Block
(ii) Academic Block
(iii) Science Block
The institute is highly eco-conscious and maintains a sustainable environment for the benefit of mankind by protecting the flora and fauna of the campus. A variety of species of plants and trees is developed in the campus making it lush green.
TRAINING & PLACEMENT CELL
There is special department for placement of college students. Responsibility of this department is to prepare technical/communication and other skills, develop confidence and arrange interviews with top notch national and international (MNCs) organization. Organize personality development programs, inviting industries experts for visiting and imparting latest methodologies and techniques with latest information in the campus.
Industrial training with top organizations in India also will get vacation training arranged by college.
The Training and Placement Cell in the college arranges campus selection of students, personality development programmes, training for interviews and competitive examinations, industrial training for students, assistance for higher studies in India and abroad, and other career development schemes.
The principal objective of the Cell is to enhance the professionalism and employability of the students of the college so as to facilitate the achievement of their career goals.
Expose the students to Industrial environments
Render the students to participate in value-added programmes
Assess the aspirations of the students for their chosen field/career
Assist the students in realizing their short-term career goals
Update the information regarding developmental activities in the various industrial sectors.
The Training and Placement Cell of the college operates with the active involvement and support of all the staff members and students of the college.
The Cell held periodical meetings to chalk out programmes, guide their implementation and assess their progress and effectiveness.
Lack of soft skills among the job aspirants was pointed out by many, time and again. The Cell, therefore, organized training programmes for developing and improving such skills of the students. Professional training groups active in the country were contracted to carry out these programmes.
Lanco Infratech Ltd, Semi conductor Technologies, Lucknow; BSNL; Deptt. Of Road Construction; Deptt. Of Building Construction; Vardhaman Special Steel; NTPC Kahalgaon; Doordarshan Kendra; GKC Project Ltd. Etc.
They covered areas such as:
The feed-back from the students on these programmes were effusive and showed them to be very effective.
Training institutions conducted seminars at the college to inform the students on the training courses they offer in specialist technical fields.
While it has been a year filled with activities and satisfactory results for the Training and Placement Cell, it goes without saying that much more have to be aimed at. Raising the level of information support for the students, wider exposure to the industry, enthusing more students to take the relevant training courses and inculcating the spirit of entrepreneurship in the campus community are the areas needing further intensity.

This is pleasure that we are introducing AZMET Group of Institutions which have built a dream come true. Today’s Bihar especially Kishanganj district requires immensely talented and high skilled professionals to meet the needs of the industries. With our efforts directed at providing a genuine platform for aspiring engineering graduates. The AZMET is poised to become one of the most favoured destinations for engineering education. And this is the first private/self-financed Technical Institute in Bihar. We have noticed that inspite being from the best institute, students find it extremely difficult to perform in a commercial/international environment. It is to fill this void that we have made one attempt to introduce an engineering college which will enrich students to set first hand in latest technology age at AZMET. You will be sure to get all this, and more!
Our aim is to check the financial out flux of money from the district and provide the avenue at their own district and local district and even for adjacent country. Hence, there was need of Technical Education (an engineering college) in Kishanganj district in Bihar for the Socio-economic development of the area.
All these are rightly appreciated and approved by AICTE and the State Board of Technical Education, Govt. Of Bihar, Aryabhatta Knowledge Universtiy, Patna, NCVT which increase the weightage of our Institutions in national and international marketplace.
Education is the need of our country. As we all know the percentile of educated Indians. A country shall progress rapidly if the overall progress of people is more and more. Like wise the overall progress of a nation resides in its technique. More and more technical personals will serve the country better and best.
Today’s Modern & Technically strong India is grateful to the legendry leader Late Sri Rajiv Gandhi, who shows the dreams to become true. Technical education is now-a-days more necessary than the traditional ones.
Importance is much awaited specially in the state of Bihar as it is very much needed to be in the mainstream amongst the other State. One can see the difference between Bihar & Other Indian States. Be it Infrastructure, Construction, Industries, Roadways, factories etc. we are struggling for these till now. During the past ten to fifteen years, we are not so confident about all above these. But as the days are passing we are enabling us confidently. Be it any field, we are providing ourselves. We hope in the coming years, we must see metros, bullets, superhighways, International Airports in Bihar. All these will be possible if and if we concentrate our ideas in improving technical educations in Bihar.
My heartiest wishes to the upcoming technology workforce.
