Shanti Business School has been set up by The Chiripal Charitable Trust to bring about the much needed changes in Management education today. The Chiripal Charitable Trust is a Corporate Citizenship initiative of the Rs 2500 crore Chiripal Group of Companies which have interests in Textile, Petrochemicals, Packaging, and Infrastructure.
Changes are much needed in Management Education today. In most cases, Business Management education has primarily focused on putting up ‘MBA’ tag to people with little emphasis on developing real managerial skills to make the graduates employable. Many studies including a NASSCOM-McKinsey study conducted in 2005 and a MeritTrac study conducted in 2009 found that less than 25% of the MBAs passing out from MBA schools in the country were employable. Many fear that the actual employability in 2011 and onwards could be much lower. Lack of real development of managerial skills and abilities along with a seemingly over supply of MBAs have led to situations where MBAs are employed in jobs which could go to any graduates.
Change is also needed in curriculum. Worldwide, MBA curricula are being designed dynamically as evolving coursework to align with the rapid changes in global economy, business and society. Through extremely fast changes in the business environment, new functional, cross-function and business verticals have been evolving which require MBAs to be vertically specialized along with having general management and strategic management skills.
The promoters of The Chiripal Charitable Trust want to harbinger the much required changes in Management education in the country. This strategic intention has led to the creation of Shanti Business School. The creation of Shanti Business School is based upon Chiripal Charitable Trust’s B-C-D philosophy.

This aesthetically designed, state-of-the-art SBS campus is awarded by Inside Outside magazine as ‘Appropriate Architecture’ for its design and use of space. The magazine has particularly mentioned the staircase as the nerve centre for transition and interaction in the building and the use of space which gives the feel of openness. The picturesque setting of the overall infrastructure offers space, tranquility and peace of mind stimulating people to pursue a path of excellence, setting up a perfect educational environment for students.

At SBS, even the cafeteria, or the ‘Kitli’ as we call it, is a very important component of the students’ daily life. Identity of Shanti Business School has been reflected in its logo. The first interpretation is that of an open book, signifying learning and the pages offer various opportunities in management education or various vertical specializations. The second impression is that of a fledgling bird about to take off as a freshly minted MBA graduate from the portals of SBS to take on challenges of the world of work.
The major driving force of today’s business, economy, society and politics is a virtual explosion of knowledge. The boundary of available knowledge in any given field is expanding probably by a few megabytes every second! With increasing capacity of storing knowledge and with availability of the technologies to retrieve knowledge intelligently has led to situations where much of a person’s skills become redundant with passing of every year, if not every quarter. Education cannot be foolish enough to ignore this fact.
In Business and Management education we cannot forget the fact that what we teach must have to stay relevant with what skills industry requires. Industry requirement of skills are directly proportional with challenges posed by the rapidly changing business horizon driven by knowledge explosion.
Therefore we must ensure that one, we research and continuously evolve a curriculum in line with the industry requirements, and two, we offer deep concentration in most, if not all, vertical specializations across functional and industry domains that are evolving fast. Along with the ability to rapidly evolve our curriculum we also need to constantly align our teaching methodologies with changes in cognitive learning processes and advent of learning technologies. At SBS we constantly attempt to deliver through the most contemporary pedagogy.
